How To Become A Life Coach | How To Become A Life Coach | Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

We hear of all the greatest life coaches and motivational speakers who had no certification of being a certified life coach. The question really comes, do you really need to become a certified life coach to not only life coach others, but do a great job of life coaching others?

Looking at some of the great motivational speakers and the most famous of life coaches, you will often find that they did not have any formal life coach training or certification, you will find in most cases they were using there own life as the certification. The question is - do you really need to become a certified life coach?

Times have changed from several decades ago. Looking into a bit of the modern history of life coaching or personal development, like coaching started becoming more known after the 1950’s and 1960’s. Telling someone that you were doing personal development in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s would have had some strange remarks from people. And tell someone in those days about life coaching, and they would really look at you like you had just come from Mars!

Today life coaching is more popular, and with more and more people getting inspired to give a helping hand to humanity, wants to embark on this great journey of life, life coaching others. As such, there has sprung up several courses at private learning centres and you can also find home study courses that can help you become a certified life coach.

Why would you want to get certified in the first place? Becoming a certified life coach has many benefits, and whether you choose to get certified as a life coach or simply learn from experience, certification can help you to serve more. The most part of the certification process involves learning, and also applying that knowledge. And this is where the best part is, where you can learn how to provide solutions to people.

No doubt the biggest part of being a life coach is seeing things outside of the box, for the people your life coaching clients. They want answers, and want solutions which can cut time, make life easier, and ultimately achieve goals. For well known life coaches and motivators, this involved years of study. For me, I studied personal development since the age of around 15, when my dad gave me a copy of Think And Grow Rich. This set me on a path of learning and one decade later, I am coaching others. For many people this kind of time invested before having returns may not be ideal.

When you begin life coaching by becoming a certified life coach first, you enable yourself the cut down the time of initial training. The answers have been collated to many problems, and here the life coach certification comes into its own merits. You don’t have to spend a whole months or years finding a solution to a problem, the life coach training can provide it in the study.

One thing to keep in mind with life coach training is that it can cut down the time needed in learning the key points that any life coach needs to master, before life coaching others. However, there is still a long training period with life coach certification. The biggest learning, like with driving a car, is that you will learn most when you are coaching others.
